SOUTH KOREAN PARLIAMENT VOTE TO IMPEACH PRESIDENT PARK

South Korea’s President, Park Geun-Hye, was voted out on Friday by Parliament amidst cheers from protesters following corruption scandals that trailed her Presidency.

President Park was voted for impeachment by 234 members of Parliament (a number in excess of the 2/3rd needed for the impeachment), while 56 were against and six abstentions.South Korea’s court will begin deliberations on the motion, a process that could take up to 3-4 months.Hwang Kyo-ahn, South-Korea’s Prime Minister will occupy the position until the court’s ruling.President Park has been accused of sharing confidential information with long- time confidante and adviser, Choi Soon-sil, who has long been confined to prison after being indicted for fraud and abuse of power.
