State institutions in Nasarawa suspend strike action
By
The state’s Union Chairman, Mr Ariks Bashayi, commented on the suspension in Lafia, the state capital on Wednesday immediately after the union’s emergency meeting.
In his view, Bashayi said the decision was in response to the state government’s commitment through the authorities of the three tertiary institutions owned by the state.
“Though all our demands were not met, the union has shifted ground for now.
“The State Government and other stakeholders appealed to the union to call-off the strike to pave way for further negotiations.” He said.
Bashayi said the latest decision of the government showed it agreed to grant 75 percent of the union’s requests, leading to the suspension of the strike.
In light of this, the chairman beckoned on members of the union to resume work immediately, as ongoing effort of the union would suggest the next line of action.
It was gathered that on April 5, the union embarked on an unspecified strike action, stating government’s indecision to show concern for their welfare issues.
The College of Education, Akwanga, College of Agriculture, Lafia and the Nassarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia are the three institutions engaged in the strike action.
