Stevedoring Regulations to be fully implemented by NIMASA

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has been set to put into full enforcement the NIMASA Stevedoring Regulation 2014.

This was revealed by the Director-General of the agency, Dr. Dakuku Peterside who was represented by the Head, Corporate Communications, Hajia Lami Tumaka at a day’s Stakeholders’ Sensitization Seminar on NIMASA Stevedoring Regulation, 2014.According to Peterside, the enforcement of the regulation would strengthen the stevedoring operations in all dock labour operational areas.He also said that the regulation recommended standards for the appointment and operations of the stevedoring services at the ports, terminals, jetties, onshore or offshore oil and gas or bonded terminal, Inland Containers Depots (ICDs) or dry ports, off dock terminals and platforms within the Nigerian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).Mr. Gambo Ahmed, the agency’s Executive Director, Maritime Labour and Cabotage Services, also said that the agency would produce a conducive environment for the employers of maritime labour in accordance with international best practices.The Director-General also reminded stakeholders to comply with high standards in their operations in order to stem the tide of industrial accidents in the ports, jetties and terminals.
