The Supreme Court has declined to sack the Governor of Cross River State, Gov. Ben Ayade over allegations that he falsified his age. Mr. Joe Agi (SAN), a chieftain of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) lodged a suit before the court. Agi who came in second in the gubernatorial PDP election held in the state on December 8th, 2014 insisted that Ayade lied about his age.
He presented three affidavits in the court showing conflicting dates as his year of birth. The nomination form used in the Cross River State election contest showed he was born on March 2, 1969. However, an age declaration attached to the form which his brother, Frank Ayade, swore before a Cross River High Court on February 1st, 2007 showed 1968 as the year of birth.A University of Ibadan admission application applied by the governor showed March 2, 1966. The bio data was allegedly issued by the university itself. The apex court however delivered a verdict which was in Ayade’s favour.
