The All Progressives Congress (APC), on Monday, February 15, congratulated Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on her historic appointment as the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
The National Secretary of the APC Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), Sen. John Akpanudoedehe, felicitated with the new WTO DG in a statement on Monday. According to him, the confirmation of the appointment indicates that anybody can achieve any positive feat with hard work and diligence.
It read, “For the marginalized groups, particularly women, the appointment of Okonjo-Iweala is a pointer that the world is fast changing. Anybody can achieve any positive feat with hard work, diligence, and pursuit of excellence, we hope this serves as an inspiration to all.”
The APC Secretary also added that Okonjo-Iweala has the capability to lead the needed reforms to ensure that the WTO delivers on its mandate to promote open and fair trade for the benefit of all.
Akpanudoedehe also revealed that it was heartwarming that the former finance minister has chosen to prioritize the ramping up of health and economic global efforts to combat COVID-19.
He said, “The global COVID-19 pandemic has brought its challenges on member nation’s economies. It is heartwarming that Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has chosen to prioritize the ramping up of health and economic global efforts to combat COVID-19.”
