The African Women Lawyers Association (AWLA), on Thursday embarked on a peaceful protest to the Lagos State House of Assembly in a bid to urge political office holders in the country to guarantee that women be adequately represented in government appointments.Speaking through its coordinator, Mrs. Mandy Asagba, the group demanded that the law makers should, as a matter of policy, increase the percentage of women in government to fifty percent to enable them participate more actively in the formulation of government policies.She also pointed out that it would have multiple effects and translate into equal share in government budgeting and resource allocation.In his message on behalf of the State House of Assembly, Olusegun Olulade urged them to participate in politics and contest for a viable office.He also expressed the determination of the Assembly to see to the end of gender discrimination and inequality.
