4 Naval Ratings Killed by Sea Pirates in Bayelsa

Four Naval ratings attached to an oil servicing company along the Nembe creeks in Nembe local government area of Bayelsa State were ambushed and shot dead yesterday by suspected sea pirates.Others who were also killed by the sea pirates in the process were a couple, a senior employee of the firm and his wife identified simply as Mercy.Meanwhile, the whereabouts of the Naval ratings and the oil worker remained unknown.The Nembe community have in recent times experienced series of kidnapping and violence. And the indigenes have expressed concern over the recent incident of violence along the Nembe creeks and waterways.Some indigenes have accused some personnel of the military authorities of contributing to the violence and killings due to alleged bribery for release of arrested pirates, while others say this is the result of the proliferation of heavy weapons during the last governorship poll.
