By Correspondent

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has authorised Al-Qalam University in Katsina to establish schools of post graduate studies. The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Shehu Garki, disclosed this to the press on Sunday in Katsina, adding that the approval was given after the visitation panel of the Commission went to the university. After thorough assessment of the human and material resources, the university was given the go ahead. The Commission also approved the full accreditation of the four pioneer courses of the university, namely; computer science, English, Arabic and Islamic studies. Garki reiterated that the university had introduced additional 18 programmes which are awaiting accreditation, but they had also been given approval by the Commission to establish the school of remedial studies to run Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) programmes. He added; “the private university largely depends on financial assistance by philanthropists and payment of tuition fees to run its affairs.”
