Social media report of the alleged Nigerian Army’s involvement in the killing of 17 herdsmen in southern Kaduna has been disclaimed. The report was dismissed by Col. Kingsley Umoh, Deputy Director, Army Public Relations of 1 Division, describing it as irresponsible. He said in a statement that the obligation of the Army was to ensure peace and mutual coexistence among the people and warned the perpetrators to refrain from such.He said a robust relationship has been engendered between the personnel dispatched to the area, traditional rulers, community leaders, the Miyetti Allah and other stakeholders.“We appeal to citizens, community leaders and other stakeholders to always speak and act in the interest of peace.“It serves no useful purposes to continue to fabricate stories about the already delicate security situation in southern Kaduna.” he said.Umoh offered the Army’s commitment to ensuring peace returned to the entire area.In his comment, he said soldiers dispatched to the area have been carrying out cordon and search operations and that has yielded the tracking down of suspects culpable for recent security breaches in the area.“In total, two miscreants were killed and two are in custody in Southern Kaduna within the period of March 19 to March 22 , 2017.”According to the spokesperson, he said troops have also ensured day and night patrols along Gidan Waya-Jagindi-Asso road and surroundings.
