Benue State police raids kidnap hideout; arrests one suspect, frees school proprietor

In response to the political will to fight crime in Benue State, the police has rescued a kidnap victim from kidnappers’ haven in Ushongo LGA of the state three days after Governor Samuel Ortom signed the Anti-Kidnapping Bill into law.The kidnap suspect with other accomplices were paraded at the state Police Command headquarters in Makurdi. The state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Moses Yamu, confirmed the abduction of one Mr. Ape, who is the proprietor of Excel Grace School Gboko on Wednesday in Gboko, Gboko LGA of the State.According to Yamu, the rescue was made after due information was gathered on the kidnappers who were holding one victim in Ushongo.He also confirmed the arrest of one Isaac Atsor aged 33 during the raid on the hideout, while four others escaped.Information gathered revealed the suspect, Atsor had just served his jail sentence and freed on March 22, while a manhunt has begun to capture the escapees.The rescued victim has returned to his family, meanwhile, the suspect, Isaac Atsor, confessed to committing the criminal offence with the four others on the run.“The CP is committed to eradicating kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism and all forms of crimes in Benue State,” Yamu stated.
