Boyfriend stabs lover to death over refusal to make him ‘next of kin’ to her account

By Akinwande OnadekoMr. Sotonye Martin and two others were arraigned at a Port Harcourt Magistrates’ Court by Department of State Services (DSS) for stabbing his lover, Miss Sophia Phillips Horsefall, a female staff of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) after she refused to make him her next of kin to her bank account as well as refusing to give him N1 million which he had asked from her.

The accused, Martin and two others, Innocent Oluche and Wachukwu Ugochukwu committed the murder on November 8th, 2016.According to the Counsel to the DSS, Mr. C.S. Eze, the accused, Martin lured the deceased to the home of Innocent Oluche where he stabbed her to death. It was also gathered that Mr. Martin and the deceased had a 13 year old daughter together.Mr. Martin and Mr. Oluche buried the body of the deceased in a shallow grave and then invited Mr. Ugochukwu, a spiritualist to perform some rituals.Mr. Amatu Phillips, older brother to the deceased spoke to newsmen that his sister was murdered because of her wealth. According to him, the deceased had given money to her boyfriend on several occasions and after refusing to give him N1 million, he had lured her to his friend’s house, drugged her and in her moment of dizziness, stabbed her in the neck, demanding her ATM card and password.
