British Airways Shuns Kaduna- Will Refund Passengers, Amongst other Options

By Correspondent

Kola OlayinkaFollowing the Closure of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport for repairs, British Airways has towed the path of South African Airways and Lufthansa in shunning the Kaduna Airport alternative route; but unlike the others, instead of totally suspending operations, it has opted for Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos as alternative. The Airline, through its Country Manager, Mr. Kola Olayinka, cited the lack of in-flight catering services and inadequate technology among others as reasons the Kaduna route was not an option for the Airline, as safety and security of its passengers is key.Olayinka, has gone on to say the that airline will refund airfares to passengers who are billed to travel with them during the closure; this will be for those who prefer total refund. Other options available to passengers will be to have their flight re-booked to/from Abuja to an alternative date before or after the runway repairs have been done or to have their Abuja due flight re-routed to/from Lagos or Accra. The Country Manager, however, lauded the Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika for the stakeholders’ meetings he convened to intimate airlines and other stakeholders on the deterioration of the Abuja airport terminal, adding that the facility poses danger to aircraft and passengers. He said his explanation helped to douse tension and allowed people to see the desirability of shutting the runway for total rehabilitation. He noted it was the best way to go.Olayinka, still speaking for the airline has assured the Federal Government that it would return to Abuja immediately after the completion of work on the project.
