Burundi Government Aid Suspended Over Violence

The European Union (EU) has suspended all direct funding to the government of Burundi over failure to meet EU’s concerns over its human rights record. A statement issued by the EU’s Head of Foreign Affairs, Federica Mogherini, said, “The situation in Burundi remains of serious concern for the EU. Today’s decision makes clear that for our relations to be fully resumed, we expect a number of concrete measures to be carried out.”
