Castro Bids Farewell to Cuba

By Correspondent

Former Cuban dictator, Fedel Castro bids farewell to his country at the Communist Party Congress in Havana, issuing a stern warning to preserve Marxist ideology in the years to come. The speech was a rare moment for the older Castro, who has stayed out of the spotlight since ceding the presidency to his brother Raul in 2006. Fidel led the 1959 revolution to establish the communist regime, ousting US-backed dictator Fulgencio Batista. According to Castro, communism has strengthened Cuba, and any attempt to reverse those ideals would undermine all of the country’s progress. Castro said, ”˜Soon I will be 90 years old, I will be like all the rest. Everybody’s turn comes.’ Fidel Castro turns 90 on August 13. He held power for nearly 50 years as president of Cuba before his worsening health condition forced him to step down from his post.
