Melaye called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to step in and make sure funds paid to the state governments were not embezzled.”˜The 36 states of the Federation collectively received over 4 billion US dollars being the over-deduction on Paris and London Club Loans on the accounts of State and Local governments from February 1990 to March 2002’, said Mr. Melaye. He went further to say that the 36 states governors did not want the general public to know about the money, especially the civil society organizations, hence the secrecy in payment. But this allegation has been denied by the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun who declared that no such money was shared and where would the government have obtained such an amount but instead disclosed that the government generated about N272.03 billion independent revenues between January and October.
