Chevron Platform Attacked by Militants

By Correspondent

Â Â Militants in the Niger Delta are said to have attacked a Chevron platform in the region. Chevron Nigeria Limited just revealed that its Okan offshore facility has been shut-in and that it is evaluating the situation, adding that resources have been deployed to respond to a resulting spill. Commodore Chris Ezekobe the spokesperson for the Nigerian Navy, also confirmed the incident yesterday. He maintained that the attack occurred about 40 nautical miles from the Escravos terminal, around Warri in Delta State. While the attack is still fresh, a group known as the Niger Delta Avengers has accepted responsibility for the attack. The militant group said they were also responsible for the attack on a Shell Oil pipeline in February which shut down the 250,000 barrel-a-day Forcados export terminal.
