Cholera Outbreak: Yemen records 315 deaths in one month

By

World Health Organization (WHO) has announced the death of 315 people within a month in Yemen on the account of Cholera outbreak. Meanwhile a different aid agency has instructed that the outbreak could turn out a “full-blown epidemic”.In WHO’s report on twitter late Sunday, about 29,300 likely cases of cholera has been discovered in 19 provinces within the war-ravaged country from April 27 through May 21.“Cholera continues to spread in Yemen,” it remarked.Save the Children said on Monday that if the current infection rate persists, not less than 65,000 cases of cholera should be expected before the end of June. “Save the Children staff in Yemen are warning that a deadly cholera outbreak could become a full blown-epidemic,” the organization said.In WHO’s opinion, an epidemic means that a disease is spreading more than the normal expectancy. Cholera is known as an infectious bacterial disease spread by contact with contaminated food or water. “The upsurge comes as the health system, sanitation facilities and civil infrastructure have reached breaking point because of the ongoing war” the Save the Children said.It also remarked that the response to the cholera cases is “massively underfunded”, and therefore demanded an “urgent financial support”.The conflict in Yemen has caused the death of more than 8,000 people since March 2015, when a Saudi-led military alliance went after Shiite rebels in support of the government.
