CISLAC applauds President Muhammadu Buhari’s statesmanship

The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre, CISLAC has commended the President, Muhammadu Buhari, for allowing his vice, Prof Yemi Osinbajo continue as acting president.In a message credited to the Executive Director of CISLAC, Auwal Ibrahim Musa (Rafsanjani), the group made its view known to the public in reaction to the president worthy show of statesmanship.According to report in the media about the decision of the president, the advocacy group commended the president’s decision, describing him as a very patriotic statesman and leader who places national interest above personal interests and does not possess the sit-tight mentality typical of many leaders on the continent.CISLAC identified the uncommon decision of an incumbent president to wilfully acknowledge that his state of health require additional attention before he can fully resume office and concede the role of presiding over the affairs of the nation to his vice, even though he is physically present in the country.The advocacy group commended the president for his resolute and decisive disposition to good governance. It noted the president’s resolution of not surrendering to pressure to act in a way that would endanger both his health and the momentum of governance being experienced in recent times.CISLAC applauded the steadfastness of the President in the fight against corruption. This cause, it said, has defined the presidency, of which the vice-president jointly pursued and is beginning to yielding fruits. A call on the Acting President was made by the advocacy group to continue to provide quality leadership to affirm the confidence reposed in him by the President and meet the yearnings of citizens of our great country.Same call was made by the group to all stakeholders to become more constructive and support the efforts of the current administration to solve the myriad of challenges confronting our country in these trying times.“We remind the government that Nigerians expect nothing short of effective, transparent and accountability governance in the exercise of their mandate. This must translate into people oriented development, equity, justice, respect for the rule of law, job creation, security of lives and property and improved welfare for ordinary citizens.”“We call on civil society and the media to continue to hold the administration accountable for their campaign promises, provide voice for the voiceless and set agenda that would positively contribute to nation-building.” The group said.The group joined other well-meaning Nigerians to welcome the president as he returned from his tour and wished him quick and full recovery.
