Colombian government blamed for violating peace deal

By

Colombian government has been blamed by the country’s Marxist FARC rebels on Sunday of “repeatedly breaking” provisions of their peace agreement, and the rebels have said they would delay their stand down. The rebel head, Rodrigo Londono said: “After the government’s repeated non-compliance with the Peace Agreement (signed in November), the FARC is going to seek international monitoring”.Londono had said that he was “considering” postponing demobilization”.The FARC rebel head’s comment concerning international oversight is hanging in the balance, even as it is included in the UN-mediated peace initiative after the stand down.President Juan Manuel Santos however, said he maintained the position of his government saying it is committed to the peace deal and will fulfill it, while he also said it is irreversible. If actually abided by, the peace deal would bring an end to Latin America’s longest civil war which has reached more than 50 years.FARC cited a number of cases of government violation, one of which is the detention of its doctor, Jose Vasquez at a road barricade in San Jose del Guaviare.
