Defunct Third Republic Lawmakers Cry Out for Help

By Correspondent

The defunct Third Republic Lawmakers (1992-1993) have asked the leadership of the House of Representatives to intervene on the payment of their unpaid salaries and entitlements over two decades after the aborted republic. These lawmakers were elected into the House during the failed transition programme of military Head of State, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (rtd). The entourage, led by Hon. Oby Anielefo paid a visit to the lower house, and made a special appeal to the Speaker of the House, Hon. Yakubu Dogara to come to their rescue. The details of the visit are contained in a statement issued by the Speaker’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Mr. Turaki Hassan. Dogara promised to intervene in due time, but that their entitlements may not be treated immediately since the bill had almost been passed into law. He reiterated; “We will ensure that justice is done. It may be late, but we will ensure that what other interim officers got is applied to you.”
