Djibouti sends special envoy to Nigeria, seeks support for AU positions

Djibouti seeks Nigeria’s support as two of its nationals vie for elective positions in the African Union, AU.

Special Envoy of Djibouti to Nigeria, Ahmed Moumin asked for the support while delivering a message from President Ismail Guelle to President Muhammadu Buhari.“For our nationals who will be vying for the positions of Deputy Chair of the AU Commission and Political Affairs Commissioner, Nigeria should support us,’’ Moumin said.Receiving the envoy, the acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbsjo said Nigeria would continue to work with other African countries to ensure that the AU becomes a stronger and more robust organisation.According to the Vice President, “it is important for Africa to always put the best foot forward and we will continue to work together with the President of Djibouti to make AU stronger.”Good relationship Professor Osinbajo welcomed the Special Envoy, saying Nigeria and Djibouti have enjoyed “a very good diplomatic relationship over the years.” He expressed appreciation to President Guelle for Djibouti’s support for Nigeria in various international platforms.“The Nigerian Government would consider the candidate, observing that the position is one that has to be occupied by the right person,’’ Professor Osinbajo stated.Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo spoke on phone on Sunday, reviewing local and other developments including the situation in Gambia, where Nigerian troops played a leading role in resolving the fallouts of the presidential election.President Buhari is on a 10-day vacation in the U.K and is expected back on February 6.Source: Government
