President-elect Donald Trump has on Thursday, 14th of November, 2024 nominated Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to head the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

In his announcement, the former president expressed enthusiasm for Kennedy’s appointment, saying, “I am thrilled to announce Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as The United States Secretary of Health and Human Services. For too long, Americans have been crushed by the industrial food complex and drug companies who have engaged in deception, misinformation, and disinformation when it comes to Public Health.”

Kennedy, however, has been a controversial figure in the health sector, widely known for his stance against vaccines. A 2019 study revealed that Kennedy’s organisation was one of the two primary funders of Facebook ads spreading vaccine misinformation.

If confirmed, Kennedy would oversee key health agencies, including the National Institutes of Health, the Food and Drug Administration, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
