Everton Board to Consider Martinez’s Future

By Correspondent

Everton’s board will today consider the future of manager Roberto Martinez when it meets. The manager has been the target of protests by supporters in recent weeks and there are more protests planned for this Saturday’s visit of Bournemouth. Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester United means the only realistic target for the Toffees is a top-half finish. This, many fans believe demands a managerial change ”“ a view that could influence the thinking of the Everton board. Martinez took training as normal on Friday, 24 hours after he welcomed reports of the meeting and asked to be judged on his three years performance at the club, the first of which ended in a fifth-placed Premier League finish. Martinez’s cause has been dampened by a spring slump which has seen them collect just three points from seven league games. Speaking at Thursday’s pre-match news conference, he said, “I encourage huge expectations. As a club, we have to drive for silverware and top four and when you aren’t there the scrutiny needs to be there. “It shouldn’t be scrutiny of the last three months but instead the last three seasons. It’s a scrutiny of the squad we have put together and scrutiny of how we play against the top”
