Ex-governor of Oyo State, Ladoja, arraigned before High Court over money laundering allegations

Ex-governor of Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja and one of his former aides, Chief Waheed Akanbi were re-arraigned on Wednesday by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged N4.7 billion fraud before Justice Mohammed Idris of a Federal High Court in Lagos.

Ladoja and Akanbi were on a 8-count charge of money laundering which is a punishable offence by law.They however pleaded not guilty and were granted bail by Justice Ramat Mohammed who earlier presided over the case.The case was then adjourned till February 14th, 2017 for trial by Justice Idris.In November 2008, EFCC arraigned the duo before Justice Ramat Mohammed against a 10- count charge which included allegations of conspiracy to convert ill-gotten properties and resources with the intent of concealing their illegal origin.Also, it was alleged that the ex-governor had purchased an Armoured Land Cruiser Sports Utility Van worth N42 million and had also remitted about £600,000 to a Bimpe Ladoja in London.
