The Minister for health, Professor Issac Adewole has announced the Federal Government’s commitment to renovate University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, UUTH in Akwa Ibom.
Adewole disclosed this to the hospital management when he visited the Teaching Hospital to assess infrastructures available at the Teaching Hospital, adding that the Federal Government under President Muhammadu Buhari watch would ensure full implementation of this year’s budget to achieve sustainable health care of the people. He reiterated, “If citizens are a country’s principal asset then their health status defines the course of development, and their health characteristics determine the nature and direction of human development.”However, the Minister urged hospital management to prioritise its needs according to budgetary allocation explaining the federal government has begun to discourage overseas medical trips by public servants to conserve fund.“This year’s Federal Government budget is tight, but I promised to inaugurate the General Outpatients Building within the year so as to give the hospital enough space for Accident and Emergency Unit,” Adewole added. The Chief Medical Director of the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Professor Etete Peters expressed his appreciation to the Minister, noting that lack of fund had made it difficult for the Hospital to recruit staff members approved by the Federal Government in spite of waiver granted to employ staff of various cadres mostly nurses and resident doctors.Discover more from NewsBreakers
