Former Liverpool Defender Agger Retires

Former Liverpool defender Daniel Agger has announced his retirement from football at the age of 31.The Dane spent eight and a half years at Anfield between 2006 and 2014 after leaving boyhood club Brondby to join up with Rafael Benitez’s squad.He featured 232 times for the Reds in total and earned a League Cup winners’ medal in 2012.Agger was a popular figure among the Kop, not least because of the tattoo of ‘YNWA’ famously scrawled across his knuckles.He departed Anfield and returned to Brondby in 2014 but, after two years back with the Danish Superliga club, he has now elected to call time on his playing career.He confirmed his decision in a tweet which read: “Thank you for your support. A great experience. It’s sad, but it is the right decision to stop. I’m proud of my career.”Agger amassed 71 Denmark caps over the course of his 11 years as a senior international.
