” Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:” – Proverbs 6:6
A wise person is identified by what he fears and what he hears. If you fail to fear God because of men, you are not wise.
Also, if you listen to what dampens your spirit, you are not wise. Ask the Lord for the Spirit of wisdom today! Moreover, a wise person is identified by his or her ability to learn. Being teachable is an attribute that you find only among the wise.
Unteachable and Unusable
Anyone who is “unteachable” is unusable to the kingdom of God. “Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways and be wise:” (Proverb 6:6). Besides having a teachable spirit, the wise is distinguished by what or who he or she can learn from.
Some people peg their level of knowledge by being too selective of what they can learn from. Your ability to learn from good or bad events from nature (I Cor 11:14), from people of authority such as men of God, and those of little or no social standing, makes you wise.
When God instructs sluggards to visit and observe the ways of ants, it is because there are vital lessons to learn even from those frail insects.
University of Life
In the University of Life, your instructions in some courses may be “ants” – the deformed, rejected, impoverished and the homeless people. Do you know that among such people, you can receive the most significant lessons? If you cannot humble yourself to study the lives of your children, employees or servants, you may never access vital knowledge that God has reserved for you.
Can you learn or receive instructions from your subordinates? God has been trying to reach out to some of His children for so long but they are just not looking in His direction.
Humility and readiness to learn
The teachable fellow is humble and ready to learn. The student who goes into his lecture room and promptly leaves because he sees the instructor is on a wheel chair will miss a lot of life lessons.
If you are wise, you will open yourself to instructions from every possible instructor that God has ordained for you. Believe it or not, there are lessons you must learn from your converts, biological children, housemaids, members of your congregation etc.
There are lessons to learn from those who are of different faiths – Muslims, Buddhists, traditional worshipers, etc. For example, do you know that idol worshipers fear their gods more than most Christians fear the God of gods? Also, Muslims regard their Quran more than some Christians regard the Bible? How teachable are you?
