Gov Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos calls for more sacrifice for national unity

Calls have been made to Nigerians not to relent in their effort to continue to make sacrifice for the sake of the nation as such practice is the only potent way the nation can overcome current challenges.Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode said this at a Ramadan Lecture at Ikeja in Lagos.The Governor showed appreciation to the Islamic community for the support it has given to his administration while at same time stated that the present season of Ramadan should be used to make life better for the nation.“I want to appreciate all of you for the support that this administration has enjoyed from the period of our campaign till now; the essence of fasting is selflessness and sacrifice ”¦ as we have started this period, I pray that all the blessings that come with the season will not elude you, there is nothing more than to be grateful to Allah,”Â the governor said.In her contribution, the Deputy Governor, Dr Idiat Adebule urged the citizens to abide by the rule of law and sustain their support for government’s programs.Dr Adebule assured of government’s maintenance of law and order and that the citizens in their contribution, should align with it.“We will continue to do our best in the provision of infrastructure and other amenities to make life comfortable for the people because that is why we are in government; the people should also remain vigilant and support security agencies through provision of information that will assist them in adequately securing the environment,”Â She said.The deputy governor also charged Moslems to constantly pray for the nation’s unity while showing their patriotism by preaching peace and harmonious living with one another.The Commissioner for Home Affairs, Dr Abdul-Lateef Abdul-Hakeem said there is need for all Moslem faithful to exercise selflessness and restraints in all their dealings.“Ramadan has come to teach us how to exercise restraints, Lagos has benefitted a lot from peaceful co-existence and harmonious relationship among people of different religions, so our message to all Muslims is to use the Ramadan to pray for the State’s development and to continue exhibiting the good character of Prophet Muhammad,” the commissioner said.Dr Tajudeen Yusuf, who was the guest lecturer, said Lagos had never recorded good service delivery in a very short period.Dr Yusuf, who is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Lagos hinged his discourse on good governance and he maintained that though the Governor, is a Christian had shown equal attention to everyone without religious inclinations.
