Governor Nyesom Wike has commissioned 120 housing units for personnel of the Nigerian Navy Ship Pathfinder in Port Harcourt City, Rivers State, southern Nigeria.

Governor Wike also announced a donation of ten gunboats to the Nigerian Navy to enhance patrol of the nation’s waterways.The Governor, who commissioned the housing units named Rivers Quarters, said that the boats were to enable personnel patrol the State’s axis of the nation’s territorial waters.He pledged continued support to the Nigerian Navy, stating “we have acquired 10 gunboats, which would be delivered to the Nigerian Navy in a short while for the protection of national assets in Rivers State”.He further promised to reconstruct a second road leading to the NNS Pathfinder yard, disclosing that the first one would be completed in a few weeks.“Besides the gunboat we are delivering soon, we will begin the construction of the second access road to NNS Pathfinder. You can see that the first road we started barely few months ago is almost completed. These are ways of showing appreciation and support to the work the Nigerian Navy is doing in Rivers State”, said Governor Wike.The Governor commended the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas for his sterling leadership skill and for ensuring that quality maintained in the construction of the 120 Housing Units.He stated: “I commend the Chief of Naval Staff for this feat achieved. The 120 housing unit is evidence that you did not compromise standards. It is a good leadership quality to insist on quality for those we serve”.Personnel Welfare
In his remarks, the CNS, Vice Admiral Ibas described the provision of the housing units as part of efforts of the Nigerian Navy to improve the welfare of its personnel.Ibas hinted that the new accommodation would further boost the morale of officers and men at NNS Pathfinder.“The Nigerian Navy is a force, which takes the welfare of its personnel seriously. Building and distributing these houses to our personnel will go a long way to boost their morale for the good of our country”, said Ibas.“I want to assure you that with your kind gesture and support to the navy, we will continue to do our best to secure Nigeria’s territorial integrity, fight oil theft and all forms of illegal activities along our waterways. Already, we have recorded success in our efforts to curb militancy, sea robbery and smuggling. We will not relent”, stated the CNS.The CNS also commended Governor Wike for his support to the navy and for the reconstruction of the access roads to the ship yard.Source: Gov. Agency
