Governors Forum commends Nigeria Customs for job well done

The Nigeria Customs has been praised by the Governors Forum for leaving to expectation, as regards checking smuggling at the borders.This commendation was delivered by Chairman of the Forum, Mr Abdulazeez Yari, who said the effort of the officers and men of the Nigeria Customs Service is responsible for controlling illegal rice imports, hence, increasing local patronage for rice.Mr Yari’s made his comment while briefing newsmen after the Governor Forum ended in Abuja. He stated the cooperation of the 36 state governments with the customs to help achieve the national goal of self-independence in the production of rice.“Members commend the Customs Service and pledged to collaborate with it to ensure that Nigeria achieves the target of self sufficiency in rice production by 2018,”Â he stated.Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Nigerian Hajj Commission, Mr Abdullahi Mohammed also intimated the forum on preparation for the 2017 hajj exercise. “The forum received a presentation on the challenges and prospects of the hajj pilgrims. Members pledged to collaborate with the Commission and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure that existing agreement on air carriers are renegotiated with the involvement of States as key stakeholders,”Â  Yari said.An agreement was also reached by the Commission and Governors Forum on how to work together on the issues deliberated.
