Harmattan Induced Fire Outbreaks Over the Weekend

Fire Outbreak in Nkwerre LGA Imo StateYes, blame it on the Harmattan. A couple of fire outbreak have occurred over the weekend in parts of the country. According to a witness, the fire at the secretariat of Nkwerre Local Government Area (LGA) in Imo State which lasted 2hours, started about 6pm on Saturday, burning down some of the offices and buildings within the premises of the secretariat.The witness also said that people in the area raised an alarm that attracted the locals to come to their rescue. Unfortunately, before the rescue team could actually do some rescue, some structures and other government property had already been razed down. Mr. Paschal Onwukaike, the Transition Committee Chairman of Nkwerre LGA, also confirmed the incident during a telephone interview. He hinted that no vital document was lost in the fire outbreak, adding that the government has commenced investigation on the real cause of the inferno.Although, one person whose identity is yet to be ascertained as of the time of filing this report has been arrested by the security operatives in connection with the inferno.A similar incident happened that same Saturday at the National Youth Service Corps Secretariat, Benin, Edo state, where a store housing hundreds of mattresses and chairs was burnt down. Offices containing files and other equipment were also brought down by the fire, according to the NYSC PRO, Benjamin Esan.Cause of fire was not confirmed as at press time, but a witness said that was was spill over from a near-by building where a refuse dump had been set on fire.Discover more from NewsBreakers
