‘Iheanacho should partner Aguero’

Kelechi Iheanacho

The man who guided Kelechi Iheanacho through his early football career believes Manchester City have not been playing him in his best position, Manchester Evening News reports.Kennedy Ezenwere nurtured the talented youngster for eight years as boss of the Taye Academy in Nigeria and is backing Iheanacho to set a new record for his country next month. The Blues ace has scored in his last four matches for the Super Eagles, and if he nets against Algeria on November 6 will become the first man to score in five consecutive games for them. But Ezenwere feels that Pep Guardiola is missing a trick by using Iheanacho as a replacement striker for Sergio Aguero rather than playing him in behind the Argentina ace.
The only time the two players have been on the pitch together this season was for the last 25 minutes at Tottenham last week.“Kelechi is best utilised as a support striker,” said Ezenwere, who blocked an Arsenal move for Iheanacho in 2014 and advised him to go to City instead.“He can play as an attacking midfielder, and also play from the flanks. He is a natural left footer so can play from inside left.”Ezenwere also thinks that City could use another skill that Iheanacho has not shown for the Blues yet.“He is good in taking free kicks,” he said.
