Jonathan’s Former ADC Released to the Nigerian Army

By Correspondent

The former aide-de-camp to immediate past President Goodluck Jonathan, Col. Ojogbane Adegbe, has been released to the Nigerian Army authorities by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). NewsBreakers gathered that Adegbe’s release came barely 48 hours after he filed an action against the EFCC for N100m in damages for his ”˜unlawful detention’ at a Federal High Court, Abuja. Specifically, Adegbe, through his lawyer, Ogwu Onoja (SAN), asked the court, presided over by Justice Yusuf Halilu, to declare that his arrest and continued detention by the EFCC since February 11, was unconstitutional and violated his right to personal liberty guaranteed by the 1999 Constitution. The senior lawyer further prayed the court to issue an order asking the EFCC to, with immediate effect, release the applicant from unlawful detention.  The SAN further maintained that the anti-graft agency’s action violated Articles 5, 6 and 12 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights. But responding, the EFCC insisted that Adegbe was being held on the instructions of the Nigerian Army. The former ADC was on a promotional course in the United Kingdom before he was summoned to Nigeria by the Nigerian Army and handed over to the EFCC on February 11. Adegbe is being held by the EFCC over his alleged role in the distribution of over N10bn to delegates to the presidential primary of the Peoples Democratic Party in December 2014, which produced Jonathan as the party’s flag-bearer.
