JTF suffers casualties from pirates in Niger Delta

The Joint Task Force (JTF) in the Niger Delta, Operation Delta Safe, lost two of its men in a battle with sea pirates, an official has affirmed.Report attributable to the JTF spokesman, Maj Abubakar Abdullahi had it that the soldiers were members of a dispatch team called upon to check on the pirates when they attacked the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa.He also confirmed Thursday that three members of the team had gunshot wounds but are presently receiving medical treatment.He was sad about the incident but assured the criminals would be brought to justice.“Sadly, our troops deployed at Creek 6 Houseboat in Cawthorne Channel while responding to a distress call of sea robbers attack around Ijawkiri general area engaged heavily armed sea robbers.“Unfortunately, two gallant soldiers exhibited highest point of patriotism by paying the supreme price while three others sustained gunshot injuries.“Effort is on-going by the JTF to track and apprehend the criminals,” Abubakar said.Abubakar also commended the troops of Joint Operation DELTA SAFE on patrol around Iyalama Adama axis of Rivers who uncovered and demolished 13 illegal refineries.He said illegal operators of the refineries fled before the arrival of the troops, who could not make any arrest.
