LASU Orders Students to Stop All Commercial Operations

By Correspondent

The Senate Chamber of Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, yesterday cautioned its students to desist from activities of external commercial buses branded as LASU Students Union Government (SUG), LASU Aluta Shuttle, Aluta Jet, and other sundry logos. The acting Dean, Students Affairs Division of the institution, Oluwafemi Obayori told journalists, “Failure to do so would amount to a penalty spelt out as one or two years’ rustication, clearly highlighted in the students’ handbook.”Obayori said the school authorities decided to draw a line between activities of the students and external commercial bus operators under the guise of LASU SUG, following the present administration’s firmness to reposition the troubled institution. The Dean also made a special appeal to the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Lagos State Transport Management Authority (LASTMA), the Nigerian Police and other relevant authorities to note the position of the institution on the issue, warning that offenders would be severely punished.“The university is a citadel of learning charged with molding students in both learning and character so that they can be useful to the society and we will not shirk our responsibility in this regard. The constitution of LASU students union does not provide for the operation of commercial buses outside LASU by the union. And so, all branded buses presently operating outside LASU campuses have no official or unofficial connections whatsoever with LASU.” Obayori added.
