The life cycle of average modern human is relatively convenient. As soon as you’re born, you are completely dependent on others. You need your mom, dad, and the society for food, water, protection, clothing, and even movement. Shortly after that, you begin to learn. You’re enrolled in a school and all of a sudden, your life is filled with purpose. You need to get good grades and you’re not even slightly worried about life after retirement. The next stage of your life after school will be getting a job – another thing to keep you going. You’ll take courses, get certified, and send out your CV until you get something. When you eventually do, you become concerned with raising your kids and managing your finances. Eventually, the hands of time wind by and you’re sixty. At this point, it’s time to retire. Most of your kids have graduated, you’ve done your fair share in the labor market, and it’s time to kick back and relax. However, this can be scary because there’s not a lot of drive left. Sitting around all day, everyday doesn’t sound particularly nice to everyone. So, how do you make the most of your retirement? For starters, you can find a new purpose by volunteering. Your kids might be out of the house and your boss is no longer patting you on the back for every job well-done. However, there are still children who need to be fed. There are still people who need help. Now, you might not exactly be needed to crunch several numbers to calculate and increase your company’s profits. But, you can still lend your hand to the world, make it a better place, and make that your new purpose. It is understandable if this does not sound like a million bucks to you. Different strokes for different folks, right? In that case, you can travel. Seeing the world outside of where you are has a way of expanding your knowledge and your perspective. You’ll get to experience things so different; they’re astounding. You might not be able to bungee jump or go surfing in Hawaii but, among other things, you can still sit down and have a nice dinner under the Paris lights with your beautiful spouse. The third option is to drown yourself in knowledge. Books offer a world of wisdom in a small package. They’re not so expensive and they’re quite entertaining too. While making active efforts to socialize and enjoy the company of those who love you, after retirement, you can read. Read anything and everything. All those books you postponed because of work, get to it. Enjoy yourself!
