The Police Command in Lagos State has assured that an investigation is ongoing to arrest the suspects who allegedly stoned a Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) Brigade to death.The Command’s Spokesperson, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, said this on Thursday affirming that ongoing investigation had begun and the culprits would be brought to book.“Investigation had commenced on the case and the command would not relent until the perpetrators were arrested,” he assured. The KAI official was mobbed by aggrieved street hawkers at Iyana Oworo area of Lagos on Tuesday. The deceased, Moshood Ayeni, was reportedly attacked by sympathizing hawkers, who were on rampage after their colleague was arrested by him.KAI Spokesperson, Alabi Rahmat, confirmed the incident, saying that the environmental sanitation and law enforcement officials were disembarking to their office after the day’s work when the incident occurred.She said “the officials were coming from an assignment when they saw traders hawking in traffic by car wash and arrested Jeremiah Nnana and Orich Nwofokoh, both selling sausage and phone accessories in the traffic.“The suspects were then taken into the agency vehicle with registration number KRD 643 DS and suddenly, the suspect’s colleagues, who escaped when the two were arrested, came back and pelted the officials with stone.“The traders started shouting and calling the KAI officials ”” thieves, thieves.“And when the stones from rampaging hawkers hit the victim on his head while he was inside the vehicle, he fell down from the moving vehicle and became unconscious.”The deceased was taken to the State Emergency Centre, where he received first aid treatment before he was referred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) where he died on arrival.However, Mr Jimoh Amusa, the KAI Marshal General, condemned the criminal act.Amusat further said in spite of the attack, the brigade would not hesitate to carry out its lawful duty, as it pertains to curbing hawking in traffic, and at same time, she commiserated with the family of the deceased.
