Man Nabbed for Killing Wife after Impregnating Housemaid

A 40-year-old man, Victor Dashit, has been nabbed by the Plateau Police Command on Thursday for an alleged murder of an eight month pregnant wife, Irene.Police spokesperson, Terna Tyopev, said in Jos: “Victor is in our custody and investigation is ongoing. We shall soon take him to court.”The accused, Dashit, a member of staff of the National Industrial Court Jos lives in the New Abuja area of Jos. The murder was committed at the couple’s farm in Kangang on the 2nd of June.Media report supported that Dashit, requested the help of his brother in order to move his dead wife to the hospital on the claim that she collapsed after complaining of dizziness.It was established by a family member that the couple has been faced with some challenges resulting in physical clashes for some time.The situation degenerated when the now dead wife caught her husband having sex with their maid, Nora, in May 2016.The family member said: “The woman woke up one night sometime in May 2016 and did not see her husband on the bed. After combing the entire house, she peeped into the house help’s room and found her husband on her.”Irene was reported to have sent the maid packaging but only for her to return with a notice of her pregnancy two months after.“Nora’s pregnancy aggravated the problems in their marriage; at a point, Irene fled to her parents’ house in Gindiri, but was persuaded to return to her husband’s house by their Pastor.“The Pastor persuaded her to return in November 2016, after intervening in the quarrel. She became pregnant immediately.It was also reported that the late Irene was survived by two daughters, while the unborn baby, who was removed from her womb did not make it.The Air Force Military Hospital, Jos where Irene’s body was transferred said the husband brought her in on the assertion that she collapsed after a complaint of dizziness.“The doctors confirmed her dead on arrival, but rushed her to the theatre for an emergency CS in a bid to save her unborn baby but brought out a dead child,” the Air Force Military Hospital said.Medical examination on the corpse showed some injuries on the neck, indicating the possibility of strangulation.“The doctors quickly reported the matter at the Anglo Jos police station where Dashit owned up to strangling his wife,” the hospital confirmed.Tyopev, said the case was that of infidelity, one he termed an unfortunate incidence, adding that Dashit had also confessed to impregnating the maid.  The police spokesperson said: “He confessed to holding the woman by the neck, but said he did not intend to kill her.”
