N-Power Project: Federal Government threatens to prosecute erring volunteers

By

The Federal Government has threatened to try N-Power volunteers who refuse to resume work in their places of primary assignment in spite of receiving monthly wages.Senior Special Assistant to the President on Job Creation (N-Power Scheme), Mr Afolabi Imoukhuede made this comment with the NAN forum.Imoukhuede said the government had found out that 17 N-power volunteers are collecting salary since December but refused to resume work at the primary places of assignment. “This issue of them not going to work is exception that we are not going to take chances. We are going to really blow that exception so that it becomes a deterrent. “Because in the school where I identified them, their dutiful colleagues, the volunteers who are the true Ambassadors of N-power, are there and they know these people. “So now if we don’t investigate and prosecute them they now get de-motivated. “They must remain motivated to continue to work regardless of what season it is; rainy season, dry seasons or what have you.” He added that another five volunteers were also culpable for same offence. Imoukhuede said the revelation was made possible by the cooperation between the Federal Government and all the state governments via a monitoring framework at work. He nevertheless commended the success of the N-Power project in terms of good attendance recorded by some volunteers who have shown their passion for the job in spite of challenges. Imoukhuede said his team is also present in every state to interact with the volunteers and assuring them of President Buhari’s message to them that `this is pay-for-work-done’, a saving initiative provided for them.
