NAF Caters for 300,000 IDPs’ Medical Treatment in Two Years

No fewer than 300,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) are beneficiaries of the free medical services of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in two years, the military said on Monday.Air Vice Marshall Sale Shinkafi, NAF’s Chief Medical Officer, said this in Maiduguri that the beneficiaries received free treatment at different medical outfits sponsored by the service.According to Shinkafi, the medical assistance rendered covered general surgeries, obstetrics, gynecology and ophthalmology.The medical exercises, according to the air chief, were carried out in Yola, Abuja, Maiduguri and other locations and at least 300,000 IDPs were treatment for various health problems within the period covered.It was also gathered from the chief medical officer that the command was carrying out surgical operations on 300 IDPs in Borno State.He added that: “The exercise is part of the NAF medical intervention designed to alleviate the surgical condition of IDPs in Borno State.“About 100 IDPs with special cases are selected each from three camps; Dalori, Banki and Bama, to benefit from the exercise.“This is part of a comprehensive intervention towards improving the health status of the IDPS”.The NAF, Shinkafi’s submitted, had also built two clinics at Dalori and Bama IDPs, each of which was supplied with modern gadgets.The exercise saw about 150 eye surgeries carried out in Maiduguri in 2016 and over 35,000 IDPs received free medical attention in the last two years, the chief medical officer said.“More than 10, 000 IDPs were also treated at the NAF emergency center in Bama.“We are also providing psycho-social therapy to traumatized IDPs and cancer screening services,” he stated.It was asserted by the military chief that the command’s nutrition support scheme is also providing free meals to 500 pupils in Bama.
