National Youth Council of Nigeria supports sensitization of voters registration

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has indicated its interest in the sensitization of Nigerians for registration for the Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). It made the call on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), political parties and Civil Society Organizations to assist in the process of sensitization.Mr Obinna Nwaka, the Deputy Director, Directorate of Political and Democratic Matters of NYCN, said this at a news conference in Abuja on Tuesday.He said it has become necessary in the face of poor awareness and apathy noticeable since the exercise started.Nwaka affirmed NYCN’s action to embark on a nationwide sensitization of Nigerians on the need to embrace the registration.He said that it was important for INEC and other pressure groups in the country to carry out a massive sensitization, as the PVCs is very important in the electioneering system.Nwaka noted that the PVC is the weapon, strength of the voters during elections, therefore, there is need to enlist all suitable voters prior to 2019 general elections. This, according to him, INEC must ensure is done in good time.“INEC as a body should increase the awareness on the registration process with the good information on deadline to motivate the citizenry,’’ the deputy director said.He also stated the need for INEC and other stakeholders to intensify effort to mobilize citizens to participate in the exercise, particularly the IDPs, North Eastern states and Southern Kaduna.Nwaka applauded the electoral body for commencing the process and encouraged its continuation so that large number of people can be captured.
