New Telegraph MD, Egbemode now NGE President

The Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of the New Telegraph, Mrs. Funke Egbemode, has been confirmed substantive president of the Nigerian Guild of Editors.egbemode Egbemode’s unanimous confirmation took place last night by the Guild at the ongoing 12th All Nigeria Editors’ Conference (ANEC) 2016, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

She emerged the acting president of the NGE at the second quarterly meeting of the association’s Standing Committee held in Abuja. Egbemode’s emergence followed the vacancy created by the exit of the President of the Guild, Alhaji Garba Deen Muhammad, who was appointed the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation. This was just as Muhammad’s predecessor, Femi Adesina, was also appointed the Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity to create the vacancy he filled. In her brief remarks, she said, “My vision is to take the NGE to the next level, build on the structures my predecessors laid.  I hope that by the time my term ends, I would have added value to the Guild, make this elite body a bigger pool from which the nation continues to drink”. Before joining the New Telegraph, Egbemode had also worked in The Sun, Punch and Post Express newspapers and other notable Nigerian newspapers. She also served as the Special Adviser on Media to a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Patricia Olubunmi Etteh.
