The Courier Regulatory Department of the Nigerian Postal Service has revoked the licences of 12 courier companies for various offences ranging from non-renewal of operational licences to sundry unethical practices.NIPOST, which currently operates as a courier regulator-operator outfit in the country, also sealed the offices of four other courier operators for alleged non-regularisation of their operations. The 12 operators, whose licences were revoked, had been operating courier business in different parts of the country. They include AM Express; AMC&C Express; Bems Courier; Danzas Express; ESPN Logistics; Fenway Courier and IAS Express. Others are Team United Express; Time Courier; Vitesse Courier; Wadoye Express and Worldwide Premier Logistics Solution. The CRD said it clamped down on the four courier companies for operating in Lagos without licences. The four courier operators whose offices were sealed in Lagos include BD Logistics, 12 Baskets Foods Limited, E-Top Nigeria Limited, and Nuli Juice Delivery. It said the operators whose licences were revoked had over the years engaged in unethical practices that had allegedly deprived the government of huge revenue and put the courier industry at risk. The Assistant Postmaster-General and Head of the CRD, Dr. Simon Emeje, said the decision to revoke the licences of the 12 operators and the sealing of offices of four others became necessary so as to sanitise the courier industry to illegalities affecting genuine business operation in the courier industry.Items such as motorcycles, weigh bills and delivery invoice were seized from the operators as proofs that they were operating courier business in Nigeria without licences. While advising all licensed courier operators to ensure proper branding of their motorcycles for their dispatch riders, Emeje also advised the general public to desist from doing business with the courier operators whose licences had been revoked or offices sealed. He said the sealed offices would be reopened for business after they must have regularised their operations.
