No Long-term Commitment to Leicester City – Kante

By Correspondent

N’Golo Kante is showing no intention of committing his long-term future to Leicester City less than a year after joining the club. The French midfielder has been one of the best players in the Premier League this season since he moved to England from Caen last summer. He has been pivotal to Leicester’s title charge as his tireless work rate in the middle of the pack cannot go unnoticed. Kante’s impressive displays have led to him being linked to a big-money move to clubs such as Juventus, Chelsea and Arsenal. When asked if he would remain at Leicester next season, Kante told Sky Sports News HQ, ”˜I will fight for Leicester this season and next season, we never know and we will see. ”˜At this moment, I am focused on Leicester. We have to finish well this season but I don’t mind about being linked with the other clubs.’ In his first start for France, Kante needed only eight minutes to make an impact as he scored his first international goal on Tuesday night. He was named man of the match by many French commentators as Les Blues beat Russia 4-2 at the Stade de France. Three years ago, he was playing in the French third division but this week he celebrated his 25th birthday in style by opening the scoring in Paris. Kante added, ”˜It was a good present for my birthday. It was my first time in the starting line-up and first goal. It was a good win and we are happy.’ Kante almost joined Olympique Marseille last summer before a tour of Leicester’s ground and facilities convinced him to sign a four-year deal for the British side. Since joining the Foxes in a deal worth £5.6m transfer, he has become an integral part of a team who have surprised everyone by establishing a five-point lead at the top of the Premier League. ”˜It is unbelievable because we weren’t thinking about this at the start of the season,’ he added. ”˜All things are good and we are happy.’ With only seven games left until the end of the season, Leicester is closing in on becoming the most unexpected English champions since Nottingham Forest in 1978. Games against Southampton, Sunderland, West Ham United, Swansea City, Manchester United, Everton and Chelsea is what stands between them and greatness. Raking in a minimum of 17 points from a possible 21 would guarantee Leicester the title for the first time in their 132-year history. Kante said, ”˜We will fight for the title but it is not our due. We have to fight in every game. There are seven games left. We hope to win the league but it’s not finished.’
