North Korea in war of words with US

By

A North Korean online site has sent a warning Monday that Pyongyang will “wipe out” the US if it trigger off a war on the peninsula, a recent comment that has increased uneasiness in the already tensed region. Vice President, Mike Pence said Saturday that US super carrier, Carl Vinson, will berth off the Korean peninsula soon and this is coming as North Korea is preparing its sixth nuclear test.Speculations are there that Pyongyang is yet to build a missile capable of reaching US mainland, but North Korea has further demonstrated its resolve with two rocket tests in April alone. The official Rodong Sinmun newspaper, said Pyongyang’s forces were unperturbed, addressing the US strike group’s impending arrival “undisguised military blackmail”. “Such threat may startle a jellyfish, but can never work on the DPRK,” it boasted of its preparedness Monday under the name, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. It also stated that North’s revolutionary forces were “combat-ready to sink the US nuclear aircraft carrier with a single strike”.Pyongyang’s boasting deepens every time it sees the US and South Korea conduct joint military exercises, perceived as preparation for an attack on its sovereignty. North Korea’s propaganda website Uriminzokkiri Monday asserted in a separate editorial that deploying Carl Vinson is a sign of war: “It is proof that an invasion of the North is nearing day by day.” The editorial described such attempt as a “big miscalculation” for Washington to treat the North same way it did to Syria, which did not reply with an “immediate counterattack” in the aftermath of a US cruise missile strike early this month. The official comment was also quoted as saying “The world will witness how Washington’s rash nuclear aircraft carriers are turned into a huge pile of steel and buried at sea and how a country called America is wiped out from the Earth.” The North is believed to carry out another test to commemorate the 85th anniversary of the creation of its Korean People’s Army (KPA) on Tuesday.
