Osinbajo says Buhari is ‘as Pained as the Ordinary Nigerian’

By Correspondent

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said that President Muhammadu Buhari is as pained as the ordinary Nigerian on the slow pace in the execution of corrupt public officers in the country. Prof Osinbajo said this while speaking on Friday at the pastor and leaders retreat organised by The Fountain of Life Church, Ilupeju, Lagos State. He blamed the slow pace of the judiciary to convict corrupt public officers on the Constitution. The Vice President said: “The Constitution allows for an appeal and this is the reason most people file an appeal even at anything. “If a case is in the High Court, a person might file an appeal to the Supreme Court based on lack of evidence or something else just to delay the process. “And it might take time before the case is attended to at the Supreme Court. “This is the reason we’ve held meetings with the Judiciary, particularly the Supreme Court to speed up the process. “In the case of corruption allegations, we have told the Supreme Court to always attend to any of such appeal in time so as to have the issue quickly concluded.” He further added that despite the fact that allegations are made against public officers, there is nothing they can do except to obey the rule of law, which was what they swore to uphold. Prof Osinbajo also talked about men of integrity coming into leadership. He noted that at a time like this the country needs men of integrity that will come into government with the interest of the people in mind to develop the country. He highlighted the plans of this administration to give a loan of about a N100, 000 to about 500, 000 market women with a view to aid in promoting their businesses. The Vice President then reiterated that such loans will be given twice a year.
