Osun Radio Workers Under Attack

By Correspondent

The workers of the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation, Orisun FM radio station in Ile-Ife were on Thursday attacked by students of public secondary schools in the town who were protesting over the alleged inability of the state government to pay their external examination fees. The students in their hundreds stormed the station located at Oke-Itase in Ile-Ife around 9:00am while armed with dangerous weapons like cutlasses and clubs. Reports show that the management of some public secondary schools in Ile-Ife had asked the students to pay some amount of money in order to enable them sit for WAEC-conducted exams. The students did not buy this idea, therefore they mobilized themselves and headed for the radio station to register their grievances. They requested to see the Station Manager, Mr. Adeoye Bakare, whom they threatened to harm if he refused to air their complaints. They were insistent that the state government had refused to pay their West African Examination Council (WAEC) fees as promised during the electioneering period.
