Patience Withdraws Law Suit against EFCC, Gets N500,000 Fine

A suit filed by the former First Lady Patience Jonathan seeking redress over an alleged violation of her civil rights by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was struck out by a Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Monday.Mrs Jonathan had filed the suit against the anti-graft agency seeking an ”Ž“Enforcement of her fundamental rights to own property, fair hearing, human dignity, private and family life and freedom from discrimination.”EFCC’s counsel, Kayode Oni, however challenged the jurisdiction of the court to adjudicate on the matter.On a resumed hearing of the case on Monday, counsel to Mrs Jonathan, ”ŽSammie Somiari made it clear that her client is not willing to continue with the case.In response to the former first lady’s demand, EFCC’s counsel, Mr Oni said she has the right to withdraw but would pay a sum of N500,000 for the cost of filing processes to the suit.Justice Salisu Seidu in his judgment turned down the case and awarded a sum of N500,000 against the plaintiff, Mrs Jonathan.
