The just concluded gubernatorial election held on Saturday in Ondo state, which saw APC emerge winner, is being contested in Court by the PDP.Chief Returning Officer, INEC, Mr Abdul- Ganiyu Gambali, on Sunday, declared APC’s Rotimi Akeredolu as the winner after votes cast had been counted.APC’s Akeredolu, garnered a total of 244, 842, to defeat PDP’s candidate, Eyitayo Jegede who polled a mere 150,380 votes to secure second place.Rejecting the result of the election, PDP spokesperson, Dayo Adeyeye, described the election as “a charade and not a true reflection of the will of the people of Ondo State” alleging that the electoral body, INEC, supported its rival party to rig the election, claiming that “our persistent call for the postponement of the election which was backed and supported by more than 20 political parties were all rejected by INEC which were acting the script of the APC.”In a statement, which verbally rejected the outcome of the election, Mr Adeyeye said “we have instructed our candidate and the Ondo State Chapter of our party to proceed to the Tribunal to challenge the outcome of the election. We call on the Judiciary to redeem Nigeria’s image on this matter as we request for the total cancellation of the election in Ondo state”
