Phones in India to Come with Panic Buttons from 2017

By Correspondent

From 2017, Indian mobile phones would come with panic buttons. The numeric keys 5 and 9 will be used for panic buttons. This is to provide assistance to women. There would also be inbuilt GPS navigation that would be compulsory for all smartphones from 2018 as announced by India’s telecom ministry so as to improve women’s safety. India’s telecom minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad in a statement was quoted as saying, “Technology is solely meant to make human life better and what is better than using it for the security of women?” This is sequel to a move that was first proposed by India’s minister of women and child development, Maneka Gandhi last year. Government data reveals that there is a rape incidence in India every 30 minutes.
